Listening Beneath

A public listening walk on the Island of Brienenoord in Rotterdam, in which field recordings made with hydrophones and contact mics revealed the acoustic worlds that live and vibrate beneath the surfaces of the island. We listened to the river bed, the trunks of trees, in industrial structures, the ponds, and the earth itself, experiencing sounds that are inaudible to the ears alone. "Listening Beneath" enabled us to sense the vibrant resonance of the River Maas, the breath-like shifting of silt, the insect life of ponds, and the interior of trees in wind.

In collaboration with Real End, supported by the Buitenplaats and Rotterdam's Parkenmaand.
